Christin Paige Minnotte is an artist working in photography, video, installation and performance. Her work is centered around mankind’s relationship to nature. She has a BA from Bard College (2001) and a BFA (2010) from the San Francisco Art Institute. Christin was invited to perform her conceptual work Disposable Ethic during the 2015 Havana Biennial in Cuba. She has exhibited her work in galleries in south Florida, New York City, Texas, Colorado, New Orleans, Havana, Cuba and at Art Basel including Cheryl Hazan Gallery, Fabrica de Arte, Cancio Contemporary, Bakehouse Art Complex, & Gallery, Whitespace Collection, Placeholder and BaCA. Her short dance films have won awards at Screendance Miami, been shown at the Fringe Festival in Scotland and been chosen for screening at Perez Art Museum, Miami. She was awarded the competitive Voices of the Wilderness residency in Alaska to continue her conceptual work.
Christin currently lives and works in Palm Beach Gardens, FL where she is developing her patent-pending light sensitive display system and ethical design innovation for application to architecture and interior design, built on and by reflection. Designed as a reformation of the motives and methods of how we build, Revelation Logic technology is thus capable of re-forming and illuming the way we ‘see’ by the evocation of a literal and figurative glow - glow both as building material and as illumined cognition or perception - combining physics and art to create a dynamic experiential process for enhancing visualization and perception by means of dynamically changing, diffuse glow illumining color and natural pattern.
Artist Statement
All of my work is centered around mankind’s relationship to nature; I consider nature to be a glorious and infinite incarnation of the soul of our world. From a child, I was educated in metaphysics and have thus always been drawn toward the essential principles of things, their fundamental nature, often qualitative and beyond mere physical form. Thus it seems appropriate to me that light, of the more ephemeral ‘materials’ an artist could use, is an active and predominant element both formally and conceptually in my practice. I employ light as photograph and projection or moving light, but also via transparency, reflection, and now also as atmospheric or environmental. I am currently most interested formally, in the use of light to bring my work to life and so elevate or enlighten the viewer’s contemplation to something revelatory and lovelier than mere form, to articulate the idea of the greatest symbol of transcendent life-giving ephemera, light as dawn of idea, as life-giving. I attempt to further articulate the essence of nature’s grandeur as greater than distinct forms by layering a distillation of natural forms via the concurrence of macro and micro patterning in the natural world, using photography, video and mirror to animate these patterns with light. My work is made from light and aims to bring light, to illuminate the deepest abstract and core considerations of our world - our relationship to the natural world, which gives form and meaning to everything we are and do.
